Prospective Students
The majority of our students come from cities, not farms and ranches, and have little or no experience in growing plants or raising animals.Our students have a variety of interests, from saving the environment to becoming lawyers and doctors, and go on to successful careers in areas such as natural resources and wildlife management, biotechnology, biological and agricultural engineering, business and government, veterinary medicine, and food technology and nutritional sciences.
The College has 15 departments and 28 undergraduate major fields of study. Masters and doctoral degrees are also offered in each of the departments. With one of the largest enrollments of any college of agriculture in the nation, COALS also offers programs in entomology, rangeland ecology, environmental sciences, horticulture, floriculture, poultry science, forestry and agricultural journalism. The study of all aspects of biological systems is a major thrust in COALS. Land use, food quality, agribusiness, fisheries and wildlife, recreation, genetics, biotechnology, human health, and leadership education are areas of emphasis.
